On today’s program, we’ll learn about other individuals and groups who, because of the dire urgency of the situation, have also taken to the streets to raise public awareness about global warming. One group that has recently joined the rallies is the senior citizen community. “I’m here for my grandchildren and all the children around the world. I am extremely concerned about the harm being done to children already who are dying in floods, famine, fires, all these issues that are arising because of the climate emergency.” During the rally, some seniors held banners that read “Grandparents Against Climate Change.” After the release of the IPCC report, more than 1,000 scientists from 25 countries staged rallies carrying a common banner reading, “The Science is Clear.” Dr. Peter Kalmus, a climate scientist from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory, spoke tearfully as he explained why he was willing to risk his career to participate in the strike. “I’m here because scientists are not being listened to. I’m willing to take a risk for this gorgeous planet and for my sons. We’ve been trying to warn you guys for so many decades. Now we’re heading towards a catastrophe. And the scientists in the world are being ignored. And it’s got to stop. We’re going to lose everything.” In all of the global rallies, the activists have one common demand: government leaders must take immediate, bold steps to stop climate change. Our Most Gracious Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) frequently reminds us that animal-people livestock raising is the primary cause of climate change. “(So, can the world ever unite to pass a vegan law?) […] Can, they can. All the leaders just have to sit together and sign it. […] They have the law already. They just have to act on it. (Yes.) […] All you have to do is just change all these slaughterhouses, abattoirs into vegan farms, (Yes.) vegetable farms. Organic farms are better. […] They have to use their power that the people entrusted to them to do good for the people.”
