On today’s show we’re proud to present how numerous advanced and emerging technologies are being used to care for and protect the members of the animal-people kingdom.

In Korea, artificial intelligence (AI) software launched by the wireless telecommunications operator SK Telecom (SKT) has transformed medical care for our animal-people companions. Called X Caliber, the SKT technology helps veterinarians to quickly diagnose X-ray images of our loving friends.

PetPace, founded to provide caregivers and professionals with advanced technological health care solutions, has launched an AI-powered smart collar. The revolutionary, lightweight wearable device is designed to monitor our animal friends’ biometric health in real time. With a Wi-Fi connection, the collar offers many features, including early detection of various diseases and accurate monitoring of chronic conditions. The collar’s AI-based sensors provide a comprehensive overview of animal-people’s health status. In addition, the smart collar includes GPS tracking to help locate animal-folk who may have wandered off, ensuring safety for them and peace of mind for their human guardians.

The next AI technology we present today is being applied to save endangered elephant-people. Kendra DeKeyrel, Vice President of ESG and Asset Management Product Leader at IBM, says, “MVI’s AI-powered visual inspection and modelling capabilities allow for head- and tusk-related image recognition of individual elephants similar to the way we identify humans via fingerprints.”

Ocean Wise, a group consisting of global community partners with the mission of protecting the oceans, has been using hydrophones to prevent Whale-people from ship collisions. When sounds from whale-people are detected, the Whale Report Alert System alerts mariners in the nearby ocean to avoid a collision.

A team of researchers recently used AI to map the movements of endangered dolphin-citizens in a freshwater habitat. The researchers’ findings, published in the July 2023 issue of Nature’s Scientific Reports, demonstrated the potential of AI accompanied by acoustic tracking technology for monitoring biodiversity in the Amazon region to provide valuable information for dolphin-people conservation.
