Ancient wisdom says when you meet these 5 types of people, treat them kindly— they come to change your karma into blessings: 1) Silent Sufferers + Mothers, servants, and others endure hardship quietly, seeking no praise. Ignoring their sacrifice reduces the blessings they bring. + Example: A servant, once dismissed unfairly, later helped his bankrupt boss with kindness. 2) Karma Awakeners + They disrupt lives to reveal arrogance or anger, pushing growth through hardship. + Example: A man’s flaws were exposed by another, leading him to reflect and change. 3) Past-Life Enemies + They cause discomfort, offering chances to forgive and clear karma. + Example: A father-in-law and son-in-law, once rivals, reconciled and found peace. 4) Selfless Benefactors + Helpers who aid in dark times without recognition. + Example: A student helped by a security guard later paid the kindness forward to others. 5) Spiritual Influencers + Through serene lives, they inspire mindfulness and compassion without preaching. + Example: A parking attendant’s gentle words after an accident led a man to embrace Buddhism (Sống và Ngẫm)
Buddhist practitioners share that on the path to enlightenment, spiritual seekers go through many challenges, which help them clear their karma and grow wiser along the way. These may include: 1) Deep Loneliness + Practitioners feel disconnected even among loved ones, signaling inner transformation. + Resolution: Meditate, live mindfully, and connect with like-minded souls. 2) Unfair Treatment + Good people may face betrayal or harm due to the ripening of past karma. + Resolution: Maintain peace, always forgive others, and do good deeds. 3) Constant Illness + Sickness is a way to purify karma. + Resolution: Chant, meditate, be vegan, repent, and protect animal-people. 4) Continuous Challenges + Ongoing hardships test spiritual growth. + Resolution: Be patient, trust cause and effect, do good deeds, and meditate daily. 5) Loss of Relationships + As your energy shifts, old relationships may fade due to incompatible energies. + Resolution: Let go with gratitude and grace (Phật Trong Tâm)
American retired fire captain Bill Letson shares his near-death experience from 1994: Responding to an emergency call, he entered an apartment and found a gravely ill woman in a bedroom. As he placed an oxygen mask on her, she exhaled, saying “Oh, thank God,” and her hot breath filled his lungs. Within 12 hours, Bill was sick—his heart racing, feverish, and vomiting. Feeling his body fail, he called emergency services. At the hospital, his weakened system collapsed; his blood pressure dropped to 40/0. Alarms rang, and he was rushed to intensive care.
That night, Bill left his body, soaring through a star-filled realm. It felt like he was being released from a dark, stuffy closet and was now a huge, expanded balloon. Joy and acceptance flooded him, as if rich nectar poured over his brain and coursed through his nerves. He felt like he was home, in absolute ecstasy.
Moving among colored stars and orbs, Bill gained instant knowledge. Thinking of any subject brought floods of information, like pages flashing on microfilm. He realized the entire script of human existence was accessible, written on the “sky of time.” He wondered how he had ever believed he was just “Bill,” a personality with likes, dislikes and relationships. It felt like he’d been playing a game, pretending to be a human, and the object was to awaken with joy, kindness, and patience.
Suddenly, he landed in a solid place in front of three small hooded figures, who were thrilled to see him. They asked, “How was it? What did you see? What did you learn?” When he seemed confused, one remarked he didn’t remember them, and they giggled like friends greeting him after a rollercoaster ride. Then a tall, wispy being of swirling energy approached, radiating love so intense that Bill’s chest inflated and he nearly collapsed in tears. He sensed this was a helper, guide, or angel of some kind. Bill asked what came next, expecting a life review. The wispy being chuckled, agreeing, but instead of a traditional review, it was a “show and tell”— a tour of the dimensions of human existence.
Bill had no major regrets and was ready to stay in Heaven forever. But the being, like a father lifting a toddler, said, “That’s enough, time to go back.” Bill protested, insisting his wife and parents would recover from his loss. The being firmly replied, “You’re going back. You’ve got things to do, and they’re important.” The scene dissolved, and Bill felt himself falling through darkness, back into his body.
He awoke to an automatic cuff squeezing his arm, his blood pressure stabilizing. A nurse saw him awake and headed to the door to get the doctor. Frustrated, Bill asked why he was back, saying he’d been “home with my best bros.” The nurse quipped, “Honey, you’ve been in limbo, but you fell out of limbo, and now you’re back with us.”
For days Bill grieved, longing for the Heavenly realm. Back on duty, he shared his story until colleagues warned him to stop, since it drew attention from the bosses. He stayed silent for 15 years, but in retirement the memory surged. He felt guided to explore Central America, connect with shamans, and learn from Mayans about humanity’s place in the Universe. He concluded life is an “Earth school” where souls learn through joy and hardship to always choose love, kindness, and compassion so they can evolve and become co-creators in an ever-expanding Universe (Coming Home)
Prudent quote of the day: “Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you and treat you bad. Let God deal with the things they do, because hate in your heart will consume you too.” — Will Smith
