Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Faithful Friends Animal Society

Today, our spotlight is on Faithful Friends Animal Society, a private, non-profit animal welfare organization with a no-kill shelter in Delaware, USA. Founded 20 years ago, the organization has saved countless dogs, cats and other animals. Founder and executive director, Ms. Jane Pierantozzi, shared some of their goals and achievements in an exclusive interview with us. “We’ve dramatically reduced the killing. We provide medical care. We also have a foster care system. If there are special needs and they don’t get adopted, they go into foster homes. And we also have ways to help people keep their pets in their homes. We also have a pet lifeline to help give people advice when they’re looking for resources for strays that they found. We have over 400 volunteers working side by side with about 70 employees.” Following a “No Kill” philosophy, the organization believes in treating every animal as an individual with dignity and respect. Hearing of their noble work in helping our precious co-inhabitants, Supreme Master Ching Hai: “thankfully present Faithful Friends Animal Society the Shining World Compassion Award plus a humble contribution of US$15,000 towards this noble society.” On June 12, 2019, our Association members joyfully presented the award and gifts to Ms. Jane Pierantozzi and her team at Faithful Friends Animal Society. “Dear Ms. Pierantozzi, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to Faithful Friends Animal Society the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for nurturing kindness towards and protecting animals. This Award is presented in recognition of the shelter’s noble advocacy to end euthanasia, its commitment to shelter and lovingly care for animals. Your exemplary efforts herald a new era of empathy and harmonious co-existence with our precious animal friends.” Ms. Jane shared with us these final thoughts before we parted ways. “I just want to thank You again, the Supreme Master and Your organization for Your love of animals and for Your gracious award today and the grant award that will help us with our mission to care for the animals. Also we’d just encourage other animal shelters across the world that care for dogs and cats to also open their heart to care for all animals and to embrace the plant-based diet, which we are promoting here.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mee Fah Chan, Nurturing Love

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mee Fah Chan, Nurturing Love

Today we introduce to you a Shining World Compassion Award recipient from Malaysia, a loving 78-years-young lady, Ms. Mee Fah Chan. After many decades working for humans, Ms. Chan retired and used her inheritance from her late husband to build a life-saving shelter for animals. Located in Semenyih, a small town in southeastern Selangor, Malaysia, Mee Fah’s Shelter was built on leased property three years ago and is now a loving home for over 1,400 animals. Ms. Chan lives at the shelter in a small container home to be close to her adopted furry family. “After a while, I noticed that these 4-legged were put aside. And the concentration, the charity, and everything is focused on the two-legged. And it is to me sort of an imbalance because every one of us is a creature of God.” Ms. Chan estimates that her existing finances are sufficient to operate the shelter for another two years. She hopes that by then, with help from long-time friends and supporters, her shelter would be granted non-governmental organization (NGO) status. This would allow her to hold public fundraisers. Ms. Chan is not too worried though because she has strong faith in the Divine and believes everything is God’s arrangement. Upon hearing about the wonderful work of this kind lady, our beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai “Heartfully present Ms. Chan with the Shining World Compassion Award plus a supporting token of US$15,000, with all love and gratitude for your noble work and devotion to our precious animal co-inhabitants.” “Thank you. I'm very, very touched, and very honored to have been picked from so many people to receive this award. This is what I would like to, really say that God has come down to the shelter in RinChing in the form of Great Master Ching [Hai], to come and touch all my four-leggeds and say, ‘You have been very blessed.’”

Shining World Compassion and Hero Award Recipient: Damien Mander (vegan) – A Valiant Animal Defender

Damien served in elite Australian special operations military units when he was young. Exploring a number of occupations after completing his service, he arrived in Africa, where he discovered he could put his military skills to good use. Using his life savings, Mr. Mander founded the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (IAPF) in 2009, to protect and preserve wildlife in many regions. The non-profit is a direct-action law enforcement organization. "The organization started with Damien training small units of anti-poaching rangers in Zimbabwe and then later in other parts of southern Africa, applying military derived tools and techniques to making those rangers more efficient, getting them the equipment and the basic training that they needed. And as time's gone on, what we found is that engagement with communities, getting the communities onside, understanding the value of the wildlife and the broader ecosystems and environment that those animals live in, is the only way to come up with a permanent solution." Among the projects done by Damien Mander are the recently created “Akashinga,” or “The Brave Ones” program and introducing economic and social opportunities as well as the plant-based lifestyle to women in rural Zimbabwe. The Award Letter from our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai for this noble wildlife protector reads: "Dear Damien, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to you the 'Shining World Compassion and Hero Award' for empowering rangers to protect wildlife. You have created Akashinga ('The Brave Ones'), a team of heroic field warriors made up of underprivileged women from the rural Zimbabwe community. These highly-trained female rangers are guardians of the nation’s precious and endangered wildlife. We humbly offer this Award in recognition of your foundation’s exemplary efforts to actively stop poaching, the military-grade training you provide, and the dignity and self-belief given to locals. For your innovative solution to conservation, for teaching others that real love for animals begins on out plate, and for your unparalleled skills and noble wisdoms, we hereby applaud and celebrate the heroic and compassionate deeds of Damien Mander. May you and all involved in your care be forever protected and blessed by all Heavens and Earth. With all Love and gratitude. With Great Honour, Love and Blessings in God’s Grace Supreme Master Ching Hai"

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: The Gentle Barn, Part 2 of 2

“I have this one horse that has a long, long horrible story of abuse. It took 4 years to heal her, and actually in order to heal her we had to simulate the being ridden in order to ask her to do little things that she knew how to do. And because she had been abused when asked to do things she would start raging and bucking and kicking and just going crazy, and instead of restricting her and trying to control her we would sit on this bucking Bronco basically and just say, ‘Tell me more, tell me more about what scared you. Tell me more about what hurt you. Tell me more about how angry that made you feel.’ We were hearing more and more and more of her story until finally 4 years later she had no anger left in her body and she was free.” “Once they're ready, we partner with them to heal people with the same stories of abuse and neglect. We partner with the animals to take those specific children to The Gentle Barn, and instead of them having to talk about their own emotions and their own feelings and their own stories, we talk about the animal stories, knowing full well that when we share an animal story, we're really telling that child’s story as well. We talk about real food, fruits and vegetables, where our protein and iron and calcium comes from, so they get a sense of what real food is in the garden and they get a chance to really fall in love with animals, learn what real food is, open their hearts and in the process find themselves in the barnyard and it heals their life and changes their life moving forward.” On February 19, 2019, our Association members from Los Angeles, USA, were privileged to present Ellie Laks with the Award letter, plaque, a check of US$10,000 and gifts on Master’s behalf. “Dear Ellie, It is with much admiration and gratitude that we present to The Gentle Barn the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for ‘teaching people kindness and compassion towards animals, each other and our planet’. This Award recognizes your benevolent sanctuary, haven to rescued animals and the nurturing of gentleness in humanity.”

Starting from Butte County in November 2018, the wildfire rapidly spread into an area of 240 square miles in a few hours. North Valley Animal Disaster Group, a volunteer-based NGO, immediately sprang into action to assist animals displaced by the fire. “During the Camp Fire, we served over 10,000 animals here in Butte County.” Founded in 2002, the North Valley Animal Disaster Group (NVADG) work wi

Shining World Hero Award Recipient: Milo – the Guardian Angel Pitbull

Shining World Hero Award Recipient: Milo – the Guardian Angel Pitbull

On today’s show, we travel to Minnesota, USA to meet Milo, a heroic dog who saved his family from a house fire. Minnesota is famously known as “Land of 10,000 Lakes” because of the many magnificent and shimmering lakes spread out across the entire state. It is also a state with vast and untamed nature where humans and animals live peacefully and happily among each other. One night when the Hansen family was peacefully asleep, a fire sparked in the garage. Milo noticed the danger and immediately ran into the bedroom of his human caretakers, Carrie and Dave Hansen, to alert them. Thanks to Milo’s quick actions, all three of them were able to escape the big fire which eventually engulfed the entire property. Bravo Milo for your incredible intuition and life-saving actions! Last year, we had the privilege of meeting Milo and interviewing his caregivers. Dave and Carrie shared stories with us about how active, intelligent and lovely Milo is. His presence not only brings happiness, but also gives them a sense of protection, thanks to his keen senses. “We just saw that Carrie you just did high-five with him before giving him food.” “Yeah, he’s smart.” “Really cool like friends, high-five or high-ten. In what [way] if any [does] this event change your perception on the intelligence animals?” “You’d be amazed how smart he really is. He can go from one thing to another but I mean he's pretty smart, especially with that ball. You’ll hide it from him and he will come into a room he hasn’t been in 3 days and he knows that ball is under something.” Animals have incredible intelligence and Milo is no exception. We’d be surprised at the knowledge and wisdom of our animal friends. Dave and Carrie Hansen, despite losing almost everything, are grateful that they still have each other and especially their beloved Milo. Upon hearing about the smart actions of the canine guardian, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai: “thankfully confer the Shining World Hero Award to Milo, with US$2,000 for goodies, with all love and many hugs, plus US$3,000 for the Hansen family, with much sorrow and prayers for a speedy recovery, in God’s love.” Thank you Milo for your caring vigilance over your human companions. May you and the Hansen family live a healthy and happy life full of Blessings from the Divine.

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Mr. Cédric Herrou and His Humanitarian Actions for Refugees

For as long as humanity has existed, migration has been a part of civilization. In a state of war, poverty or oppression, many are forced to flee their homes, only to become exiles in a foreign land. When faced directly with this situation, how many of us are willing to save and protect these exiled people, risking our very own freedom? Such is the incredible story of Mr. Cédric Herrou. An olive grove farmer in the French-Italian border, since 2015, his heroic compassion has given shelter to thousands of refugees. In today’s show, “Shining World Compassion Award Recipient - Mr. Cédric Herrou and His Humanitarian Actions for Refugees,” we share a special interview with the honorable Mr. Cédric Herrou and the inspired “Libre” film director, Mr. Michel Toesca. Touched by Mr. Cédric Herrou’s noble actions to help the immigrants, our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai gratefully presented the “Shining World Compassion Award, plus US$53,000 to help him further this noble cause of helping refugees, with all love and gratitude in the name of humane fraternity.”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Saving Animals From Euthanasia, Part 2 of 2

SAFE’s model of placing animals in foster care while waiting for a permanent home has many benefits for all parties concerned. SAFE provides neutering, vaccinations, and microchips as well as personalized matching services to better address issues such as overpopulation and animals getting lost, mistreated or abandoned. “SAFE doesn’t judge pet relinquishment, but is more concerned about finding a solution and doing what is best for the pet. Often we find it is the circumstance force relinquishment and we can take action and offer support to enable a very grateful owner to keep their pet. Upon providing behavioral help, temporary care, or even transport to another state, the potential cost in logistics involved in preventing a forced relinquishment is very small in relation to the cost in logistics involved in taking on and rehoming a pet. And by doing so we assist in a positive outcome for both people and their pets.” Upon hearing of their life-saving deeds, Supreme Master Ching Hai gratefully presented “the Shining World Compassion Award to SAFE and a humble contribution of US$20,000 for this noble and smart cause, with so much love and thanks, in God’s mercy.” “Dear Sue, It is with much admiration and gratitude that we present to SAFE the ‘Shining World Compassion Award’ for ‘saving animal lives – challenging the norm through fostering.’ This Award is presented in recognition of your zero euthanasia, no cage policy, cleverly utilizing foster carers until a permanent home is found. Your exceptional endeavor is creating a time when pets will no longer be institutionalized, only kept in loving home-based care. For your kind and creative loving solution, for your vision, wisdom and selfless commitment, and for being a dedicated and noble role model, we hereby applaud and celebrate the compassionate deeds of Sue Hedley, Founder & President of Saving Animals From Euthanasia (SAFE). With Great Honor, Love and Blessings in God’s Grace. Supreme Master Ching Hai”

Shining World Compassion Award Recipient: Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston

Founded in 1999 and incorporated in 2000, Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston (HHH) is a nonprofit organization that exclusively provides care for homeless people in the US city of Houston, Texas. HHH offers a variety of services, including transportation, medical and dental care, street outreach and housing programs. “Give health. Give hope. Give dignity” is the motto of this deeply compassionate nonprofit organization. “What we want to do is to be able to wrap services around people that are either literally still living on the streets or people who are in shelters or very vulnerable to losing their housing. We take very seriously our mission to promote health and promote hope, but especially to promote dignity. We believe that all people should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their life circumstances.” For almost two decades, they have served approximately 8,500 people annually in the Houston area, ensuring that no one is declined treatment based on their ability to pay. Last year, 92% of those who received care from the program had no form of health insurance. Our Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai, upon learning of the dedication and noble efforts of Ms. Frances Isbell and her staff, gratefully presented Healthcare for the Homeless – Houston with the Shining World Compassion Award, as well as a contribution of US$15,000. “I would like to thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for recognizing the work that we do day to day and for recognizing the need that we have in the world to create a better world, a more compassionate world, a more loving world.” Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai sent this letter to Ms. Isbell and her team. “Dear Ms. Isbell, It is with great admiration and gratitude that we present to Healthcare for the Homeless, the Shining World Compassion Award for brightening the lives of the underserved, bringing beautiful smiles, and thus uplifting our world with joyful happiness. This award is presented in recognition of your exemplary benevolence providing free holistic medical care to individuals experiencing unfortunate circumstances in their lives.”
