Master Confucius was born in 551 BC in Lu State, into the middle class or, in Chinese, the class of “shi”. Confucius’s father died when He was just three years old. By the age of 30, Confucius had gained popularity as a reputable teacher. He also worked in the government. As he strived to put His humanitarian ideals into practice, it is said that Confucius helped to put an end to crime. Master Confucius travelled as a teacher and advisor to the rulers of various states. His philosophy focused on the “Five Constant Virtues”: compassion, duty, courtesy, wisdom and faith. Among the Five Constant Virtues, compassion is considered most important.
