And whatever happens, whatever the Master does, it’s for the good of all. Be good, be generous, be big-hearted. Be above all this mundane emotion. All right, I keep saying that again and again, in case one of your snakes raises its head, the jealousy snake that’s inside. These are snakes, poisonous snakes, that are dormant inside of us. Don’t let him come up. We all have, it’s just the thing we control or not control. It’s no good for us. “Thus I have heard,” meaning another true story from Ananda. “One time, the Buddha was in the country called Rajagariha, in the Bamboo Grove Ashram. At that time I was meditating,” meaning Ananda, not I. At that time, Ananda was meditating, and was thinking to myself, meaning himself. “The Buddha came into this world. It’s a very, very incredible phenomenon. And he has saved so many, so many beings, so many. He has enough nutrition every day.” No, no, no, it means everyone. Sorry, the ones that he saved, that he delivered by lecture or initiation. “They have enough nutrition, enough food, enough clothing. Everything, they’re good, yes. Also, their suffering also decreased. And from the king to the court officials, to the citizens, they have immense benefit from the Buddha’s teaching and blessing. Why is that?” “After I was thinking thus,” Ananda, “I stood up and went back to the ashram.” “At that time, the World Honored One was preaching to the great assembly. And when I came in front of the Buddha, I showed my right shoulder.” And then he was telling the Buddha what he was thinking, when he was meditating. So the Buddha said, “Ananda, whatever you were thinking was correct. It was good that you were thinking like that.” The Buddha continued, “But it’s not only today like that. In the past lives I also gave beings a lot of benefit.” So Ananda said, “Prostration to the World Honored One,” meaning, obeisance to the World Honored One. “In the past life, what did you do to benefit all beings? We beg you to tell us.” So the Buddha said, “Ananda, in the former life, if you count, then it’s since time immemorial, many, many asamkhyeya eons passed already, also in the same Earth.”
